Last month a rumor circulated online that Acer and other tablet computer manufacturers are set to exit the market due to the popularity of the iPad and the new pressure given by Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
Now Acer denies the rumor, in fact, the company is still set to release new Android-based tablet computers next year. According to Acer founder Stan Shih, the company will release new tablets next year despite the poor performance of its tablet and smartphone offerings.
Shih also said that his company’s board of directors had agreed offer fewer models, slightly similar to Apple’s strategy of one tablet PC per year. Plus, the company is also expected to release competitive products, and will focus on the promotion.
Google is offering a latest tablet operating system, the “best Android version yet,” the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. It is highly possible that Acer and other tablet computer manufacturers will use the new platform which includes new user interface, better support for applications, and less fragmented largely due to the fact that it supports both the tablets and smartphones.
Shih also added that despite the plan for fewer tablet computers, the company will not lay off employees.
